Simat de la Valldigna is a small village which belongs to the region known as “La Safor”, 60 km at the south of Valencia city. This historical place is located is the valley called “La Valldigna”, a natural area surrounded by the Corbera mountain range on the north side, the Mondúver mountain on the south side, and open until the Mediterranean Sea on the east.

La Valldigna is formed by 4 villages: Simat de la Valldigna, Benifairó de la Valldigna, Tavernes de la Valldigna and Barx. La Valldigna acquired its name some centuries ago, during the times of the king James I “The Just”. The story tells that when he was travelling through this land, he told the “Santes Creus” Abbot: “Vall digna (which means, worthy valley) to build a monestry of your religion”, and the abbot answered: “Vall digna”, and since then, this small region was called “La Valldigna”.
